On the transition from full-time worker to stay-at-home mom and back
I’m Levi Sumagaysay, a recovering newspaper journalist who has started a new life as a stay-at-home mom. But I don’t want my brain to go to waste. (Note to sensitive moms: Please don’t get your knickers in a twist.) So as I await all the high-paying and extremely fascinating freelance gigs I’m going to get, I start this blog as a means to explore the joys and pains of making the transition from working for “the man” to working for my family.
My long-term goal here as I make the transition from fishwrap to diapers: to facilitate intelligent — and civilized — discussions on the often controversial topic of working outside the home versus becoming a stay-at-home mom. I’d love to hear other moms’ stories, too.

Update: I’m going back to full-time work, but to a job that will allow me to telecommute a couple of days a week. The nature of the posts may change a little, but not much. I will still be exploring the differences between working outside the home versus being a stay-at-home mom.
P.S. I know I’ll offend someone sometime in some way. Leave a comment. But please remember moms are supposed to nurture, not torture.

  • thanks for pointing to that letter to her daughters. i’m sitting at my computer with tears running down my cheeks. man, these decisions are so hard! did you see that woman’s MOM’s letter? it’s toward the bottom of the comments. that’ll tell you how you’ll feel about eva staying home with your grandkids.

  • You’re right, the grandmother’s comment was also moving. This — the back-and-forth, the doubts, the decision-making — is why I’m blogging about it all.
